Health Insurance

Stay Safe & Covered

Your tuition includes health insurance. This section explains how to use it: from booking a doctor to understanding co-pays and what to do in an emergency.

As international students, you are automatically enrolled in a health insurance plan as part of your tuition fees. This means you have medical coverage while studying in the U.S. If you need to see a doctor, here’s what you should know:

  1. Find In-Network Providers: Your insurance plan has a network of doctors and clinics that are “in-network.” Seeing an in-network provider is crucial because your insurance will cover most, if not all, of the costs. If you visit an “out-of-network” provider, you may have to pay significantly more or even the full cost of the visit. You can usually find a list of in-network providers on your insurance company’s website or by calling their customer service number.
  2. Prepare Your Documents: Before your appointment, make sure to have your insurance card and student ID with you (or passport). You might also need to fill out some forms when you arrive at the clinic.
  3. Schedule an Appointment: Most medical offices require you to schedule an appointment in advance. You can typically do this by calling the office or booking online through their website. Explain that you are a student with the college’s insurance plan.
  4. Understanding Co-pays and Deductibles: Be aware of any co-pays (a fixed amount you pay for a service) or deductibles (the amount you pay before your insurance starts covering costs) that your plan might have. This information is usually available in your insurance policy documents.
  5. Emergency Situations: In case of an emergency, go to the nearest hospital emergency room or call 911. Inform the hospital staff about your insurance coverage as soon as possible.
