Community and Mentorship

Community and Mentorship

Connecting with others can make your college experience so much richer. This section is designed to help you find community and mentorship opportunities.

Making friends in a new country can feel daunting, but here are some tips to help:

  • Attend orientation events: These events are designed to help new students connect with each other. Take advantage of them!
  • Join clubs and activities: Joining a club based on your interests is a great way to meet people who share your passions.
  • Talk to people in your classes: Introduce yourself to classmates and form study groups.
  • Go to campus events: Attend college-sponsored events, such as concerts, movie nights, or cultural celebrations.
  • Volunteer: Volunteering is a great way to meet people and contribute to the community.
  • Be open and approachable: Smile, make eye contact, and be willing to strike up a conversation.
  • Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone: Try new things and go to events even if you feel nervous.
  • Connect on Social Media: Follow college groups and other students on social media to stay in the loop and start conversations.
  • Use language exchange groups: Look for language exchange partners to practice English and make friends from other countries.
  • Be patient: Building meaningful friendships takes time. Don't get discouraged if it doesn't happen overnight.

By actively engaging in the community and seeking out connections, you'll not only have a more enjoyable college experience but also build valuable relationships that can last a lifetime.
